Forty years after its inaugural vintage, it is now firmly, recognised as one of World’s great wines. Parker consistently rates it mid 90 points and has on occasions given 100!
The Carménère grape is a variety originally planted in the Médoc region of Bordeaux, France, where it was used to produce deep red wines and occasionally used for blending purposes in the same manner as Petit Verdot. Carménère wine has a deep red color and aromas found in red fruits, spices and berries. The tannins are gentler and softer than those in Cabernet Sauvignon and it is a medium body wine. Although mostly used as a blending grape, wineries do bottle a pure varietalCarménère which, when produced from grapes at optimal ripeness, imparts a cherry-like, fruity flavor with smoky, spicy and earthy notes and a deep crimson color. Its taste might also be reminiscent of dark chocolate, tobacco, and leather.

GRAPE: PINOT NOIR
Pinot Noir is arguably the greatest of fine wine grapes. It makes the fabulous red wines of Burgundy, with scent, flavour, texture and body unmatched anywhere. A particularly old variety, the vine is difficult, only moderately prolific, and often less than happy in some of the newer parts of the winemaking world. However, New Zealand, the South of France and some New World regions are getting to grips with it and producing some very different, fruity, and worthwhile wines. Great with barbecued meats.
